Greetings, Gifted Reader!
Do you ever wonder why so many spiritualists go veggie or vegan? When you think about it, religions like Buddhism and Hinduism emphasize practicing compassion for our fellow beings. In certain sects of those particular religions, it’s believed that animals suffer as much any human.

It’s even being reported now that fish have pain receptors in their brains. That means, when it’s being caught with a hook imbedded deep inside its mouth, it hurts. Then, as it’s pulled out of the water, its capacity to extract oxygen through its gills is greatly diminished, thus causing suffocation. It’s even been stated their bladders burst. Ouch!
To my mind, causing physical suffering to another being has karmic repercussions. Anyone living a life of multiple layers of consciousness would be aware of that.
In today’s modern world, it starts with an animal being bred specifically for slaughter. Often, it’s born in captivity in tight quarters, and made to live under deplorable conditions before it’s cruelly killed and eaten. How do we consider ourselves to be truly conscious if we can’t relate to how that must feel to an animal? Is it just a matter of ‘out of sight, out of mind’? Personally, Gypsy Stars can’t see how one’s spirit is able to live freely when partaking in murder, no matter how innocent on the surface.

Besides affecting our spirit, there’s also a physical reason to avoid eating meat. The less animal flesh you ingest, the lighter your body begins to feel; opening up avenues towards being a better yogi. And, of course, even the mainstream medical community is now in agreement that eating meat is not necessarily good for one’s health. By being kind to animals and not eating them, we in turn are being kind to our own bodies.
For those concerned about the environment, note the impact of animal breeding and meat eating on it.

Gypsy Stars loves this quote by French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau:
"The animals you eat are not those who devour others; you do not eat the carnivorous beasts, you take them as your pattern. You only hunger after sweet and gentle creatures who harm no one, follow you, serve you, and are devoured by you as the reward of their service."

And, on that note, here’s a list of some famous, brainy vegetarians. Gypsy Stars likes to say, “Be smart, be vegetarian”:
Buddha
Leonardo da Vinci
Albert Einstein
Ghandi
Abraham Lincoln
Shakespeare
Socrates
