Curses, Or Just My Imagination Running Away?

Greetings, Gifted Reader!

Apologies to subscribers of this blog for this very late post, but a series of psychic mishaps has caused Gypsy Stars to be late in publishing it this month.

Gifted Readers, do you believe in psychic demons? Do you think it’s possible for those whom you consider enemies to generate negative energy and send it your way so that you bumble, stumble and fall when it comes to very ordinary, mundane tasks?

these guys, innocent or capable of evil?
Throughout history, in nearly every culture on the planet, there have been folks putting curses and spells on other folks. Instead of taking on the object of their hatred physically, the person may engage a priest or shaman to perform a ritual for the purpose of bringing harm to another through otherworldly means. By creating spiritual discord through the use of implements, the object of the curse might fall sick or become damaged in some way. Some rituals for curses are quite complex and involved.

But do they work? Or, is it just our imaginations running away with us? Can our fears or negative thinking influence us so strongly that we, in effect, end up putting the curse on ourselves?

Marie LaVeau (her tomb, pictured) called the queen of curses
It’s like that old Twilight Zone television episode, The Monsters on Maple Street, where rumors and innuendo create havoc in people’s imaginations and escalate to the point of disaster. On a suburban street, in a middle-class neighborhood, a power outage has occurred. As neighbors gather in the darkness to determine the cause, one of them volunteers to check out the area beyond their neighborhood. Another man agrees to do the same, but a little boy warns that the outage might be the result of an alien invasion. He goes on to explain that in one of his comic books, extraterrestrials invaded a neighborhood by causing a blackout before disguising one of themselves as a human being. Soon, the neighbors are loudly airing their suspicions about each other. Why does one neighbor’s car suddenly start by itself? And, another has been observed standing outside late at night looking at the sky--while another secretly listens to his radio in his basement. The neighbors get so worked up in their wild accusations that when they spot a lone figure approaching them, one of them grabs a shotgun and shoots without asking questions. Tragically, the dead man turns out to be the volunteer who had gone to check out the rest of the area.

do voodoo, or do we do?
So the lesson of the story, and the lesson for all those who have ever felt they were cursed, is that it doesn’t take anyone outside of you to put a hex on you. Our minds are so powerful that we only need to think that something bad, evil or foul has possessed us and we will create the resulting chaos, or even illness.

Remember to keep your thoughts cheerful, happy and smiling within your spirit. You are a shining star in the loving heavens of this wonderful world. Irie.

happy thoughts...

Sender Or Receiver?

Greetings, Gifted Reader!

Last month, Gypsy Stars discussed the meaning of coincidences. So, in this posting I’d like to present this question: “Are you a sender or a receiver?”

Senders have the ability to consciously, or unconsciously, send messages to others and elicit responses. For instance, say you’re casually shopping at your local co-op grocery when you suddenly realize you’ve forgotten to turn off the teapot. Although you had plenty of water in it when you set it on the stove, you’re certain that by now the water has boiled away and your house is about to burn down. Rushing though the checkout and into your vehicle, you speed all the way home worried sick the entire time over that teapot. After what seems like an eternity, you screech into the driveway. Leaving your groceries behind, you burst through the front door and stumble into the kitchen, only to see the teapot still sitting on the stove, but with the burner miraculously turned off. As you puzzle over how that could be, your mate walks into the kitchen, notices your bewilderment, and asks what’s wrong. Breathlessly, you begin explaining how you believed you left the teapot on while he nods vigorously.

“You know, it’s the strangest thing,” he says. “I was going to stay late at work today, but I suddenly got the urge to leave early. I guess we’re lucky that my job is only a few blocks away from the house. The water had almost boiled away when I walked in.”

In this scenario, you are the sender emitting an urgent message to the cosmos. Your mate is the receiver, somehow picking up on your thoughts and, better yet, responding to them.

If you pay attention to your psychic senses, and take notes, you’ll discover many instances where you’ve sent or received telepathic messages. Most of us tend to be one type—sender or receiver—more than the other, although you can be both at different times. It can be a little complicated to figure out which one you are, so I’ll describe several experiences that occurred to me on a recent out-of-town trip.

On my first day at an industry conference, I was drawn to sit near the back on the east side of the room. I didn’t know why, but I tend to go with my intuition and that’s where some part of me wanted to sit. The room soon became crowded with over 100 attendees.

Directly to my left, on the floor, sat a young man. Suddenly he said, “I know you”. I was trying to place him when he told me that I had written about him once for an industry publication. He then positioned himself to sit directly in front of me, and we began chatting. When the young man mentioned that he wanted to work in the Caribbean, the gentleman in front of him turned around and suggested he try the islands where he lived. Immediately, I realized that I had spoken with that gentleman—from the islands—on the phone that very morning. After I introduced myself and reminded him about our earlier phone conversation, we laughed about his ending up sitting two rows directly in front of me. Then, a lady arrived. The room was packed and there was nowhere for her to sit, so the young man in front of me—the one who remembered me writing about him—asked someone two seats to his right to move his bag so the lady could sit there. She declined and started to walk away, but the person moved his bag and she sat down—in front of me and to the right of the young man I had written about. The panel discussion led to a Q&A, and the lady in front of me immediately stood up and was handed a mike. When she introduced herself, I was floored. I had been in touch with this lady by email and phone for over two weeks, but hadn’t recognized her because her online photo looked completely different than she did. After asking her question, she sat down and I patted her on the back. When she turned around, I pointed to my name badge and we both laughed.

In this scenario, I believe I was the receiver with the first young man and the sender with the second gentleman as well as the lady. I was drawn to sit in the corner because I must have picked up that someone familiar was there. Then, I drew the other two to me.

On that same trip, I traveled by public transportation to another part of the city. As I rode a bus, I noticed a woman with her son. Something about her seemed familiar, so I asked her name. Sure enough, she was an acquaintance I used to be in frequent touch with. I hadn’t seen her or her son in about eight years. They both looked so different from the way I remembered them. In fact, the boy is now a teenager and was only about nine when I last saw him. I would have never guessed he, or his mother, would look the way they do now. I might have missed out on reconnecting if I hadn’t asked the woman her name. In this case, we both ended up on the same bus at the same time in a major metropolis with numerous bus lines. It’s hard for me to say who was the sender or receiver here, but I believe she may have been the sender as I had no real agenda to be anywhere at any given time while the woman and her son were on their way to an appointment. She might have been sending out a message of urgency since they needed to be somewhere at a particular time. Somehow, I picked up on it and got on the same bus they were already traveling on.

Again on the same trip, I had dinner with a lady who was introduced by a mutual friend. She and I had never met before. During our very pleasant meal, I realized I had been a frequent patron at a club where she once worked. The lady then asked me about one of the managers whom I barely remembered. I hadn’t seen him in over a decade. Several days later, another friend and I went for a walk on the boardwalk where vendors sell merchandise. As we stopped in front of a booth, the proprietor looked at me and said, “I know your face. You used to come to my club.” It was the same man my dinner companion had asked me about.

Now, this one is complicated as it involves the lady I had dinner with, the man she asked about, and the friend who accompanied me on that walk. Can you guess who the senders or receivers were here? Drop me a line at gypsystars@me.com with your best guess.

The funny thing is that whenever I mention incidents like these to my friends, they say the same thing: “That stuff always happens to you.”

Why don’t you try it? Consciously practice sending your messages out in the Universe and see if you get the responses you desire.

Jupiter: The Gigantic, Giving, Goof

Greetings, Gifted Reader!

Did ya miss me? Apologies for not appearing here last week, but this blogger has moved to a biweekly format. From now on, look for us keeping you in the know with our metaphysical musings on an every-other-week basis.

Since last we connected, Gypsy Stars has been experiencing her own Jupiter Retrograde disappointments. How has Jupiter been treating you?

As you may know, Jupiter’s generosity is legend. Here is a big fat, jolly planet that lives to give. Jupiter also loves to laugh and because of his naïveté can be a total dork. Due to his hedonistic tendencies like over-imbibing and overeating, Jupiter is also the quintessential partier slash playboy. In Ifa, Obatala is sometimes compared to Jupiter. Children of Obatala wear white, are considered chaste and holy, and not allowed to drink alcohol. Obatala, it is said, created humans. But as he sat in heaven, making people of clay then blowing them down to earth with his breath, he thought he’d have a shot of palm wine to make his work go faster. In fact, Obatala thought he’d have several shots. Soon, he became so tipsy that he accidentally began breaking off the arms, legs and even the heads of the unfortunate earthlings; sending them to earth as disabled and undeveloped.

Discipline, boys and girls, is not Jupiter’s forte either. In the case of retrogrades, Jupiter will often take back what he gave you in abundance while he was in direct motion. Because Jupiter is in Aries now, generally (because it will differ for each individual), we’re looking at issues dealing with ego, personality and the physical body. For instance, if you have Aries Ascendant, Jupiter Retrograde over your First House could be that time when you lose weight. On September 8, Jupiter will be retrograding his way backwards into Pisces while both Venus and Mars enter Scorpio! Okay, I think I’ll sit this one out in my Gypsy Stars cave. Scorpio is intense and with both Venus and Mars in it, you can expect lots of fireworks or firearms going off in personal relationships.

Switching subjects now, a lot of people often ask me for advice about how to attain mental clarity. First of all, stop ingesting dead animals. Seriously. Although it’s a good way to stay physically healthy, too, not eating putrid carcasses is also a way for you to avoid taking in any residue negative vibrations. An animal in its last moments of life, realizing that it’s dying, is fighting hard to live. That is what you’re bringing into your psyche—fear, helplessness, and the overwhelming pain of loss. Check out most Eastern religions like Buddhism and you will note that priests do not eat dead animals, for a good reason.

Once you’ve gotten to that point (and I’m not saying to do it overnight), be sure you’re always well hydrated. Drink lots of water and natural non-concentrated juices. If you have a juicer, excellent. For tea, I stick with genmai (green with brown rice bits) and if I really want to open my chakras, I use gotu kola, which is made from elephants’ favorite leaves. Drink gotu kola regularly and you will never forget. If you don’t already practice yoga, try it for both the physical rewards and meditative qualities.

After you’ve gotten yourself physically conditioned, create a place in your home where only you alone can always go. That will become your altar space where you will meditate and ask your higher consciousness, gods and/or goddesses, spirit guides, or whatever you look to for guidance, to assist you with a clearer, calmer mind.

Another time, I’ll give you some ideas of what to put in your altar space.

Above are some of my fave photos of the psychic vibes surrounding Santa Monica, a city chock full of ghosts and legends. For instance, a statue of Saint Monica stands on Ocean Boulevard and Wilshire. It’s reported that Ms. Monica was beyond consoling because her son, the future St. Augustine, was a drunkard and womanizer. Monica cried every day until her tears formed a pool near downtown Los Angeles where Spanish explorers landed. Seeing the spring of water there, they decided to name the area Santa Monica (not to be confused with present-day Santa Monica located at the edge of the Pacific Ocean). As Fate would have it, the city of Santa Monica is Sagittarius which means it's ruled by generous, jovial Jupiter and the same sign that my Moon (home) is in.

That’s me at the top in my favorite Santa Monica cemetery on 14th Street followed by a shot of Zoltar, the famous psychic living on Santa Monica Pier. Drop in a coin, and voila! Zoltar will tell you whether or not that knuckle-headed boyfriend will call you with an apology, or if your lottery ticket holds the winning combo.
