Fall leads to Winter

Fall is just around the corner—again. Does it seem to you that time is just flying by?

Autumn Equinox was on September 22. Did you happen to feel anything unusual on that day?

The quarter’s months of September, October, November and December are dominated by Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and a bit of Capricorn. That means folks in general tend to be pickier (Virgo), more sociable (Libra), incredibly intense (Scorpio) and gregarious (Sag). Capricorn, of course, is all business and status.

But, those are all generalizations. To get an accurate reading of the months to come, check out your Natal chart for any Transits and Progressions.

With Pluto now in Direct Motion in Capricorn, talk of war could become a reality. Also, Neptune turns Direct in Pisces on November 22 so watch for covert activity.

As we gather warmer clothing and prepare for winter (well, those of us living within four seasons anyway), it’s a good time to take note of some inner preparation, too. During cooler weather, we tend to spend more time indoors and, in a way, are more often stuck with ourselves for company.

Have you done a lot of introspection lately? Would you like some ideas about how to clear this year’s messes so far, so you can move into a better space as you complete the year?

1. Make lists. Absolutely jot down your goals, your thoughts, your achievements, your  disappointments. What you write doesn’t have to be elaborate. Just some words that will help take you to a deeper level.

2.  Start collecting items to accompany you through Fall. Perhaps it will be glass jars for canning jam from all the strawberries you harvested this summer. Or, maybe it’s a pile of books you’ve been meaning to read, but got too busy having summer fun to do so.

3.  Reach out to loved ones to let them know you still care, but that you’re taking off some Fall days to spend on better understanding yourself. Then, actually do it. Meditate, that is.

Those are just some ideas to wind up the year. You probably have more that you can come up with by following step 1. above.

Cockle Doddle Doo! Outta the Way for the Year of the Rooster!

Greetings, Gifted Reader.

If you think that the past few months have been some loud and raucous sound bytes, just wait until January 28 when the Yin Fire Rooster begins in the Chinese zodiac.

There’s a different element and gender energy that defines each of the 12 animals that take turns ruling over a specific year. While every animal repeats after a 12-year cycle, the gender energies—Yin (female) and Yang (male)—switch places every new year. However the elements—metal, wood, water, fire or earth—won’t repeat again for 60 years. Thus, the last Fire Rooster Year was 1957. What occurred that year? That’s what we should consider when determining what this Fire Rooster Year—January 28, 2017 to February 15, 2018—will be like.

Here are some glimpses back at 1957 with many events sounding similar to what’s occurred during the tail end of this year:

*The Soviet Union launches Sputnik, the first ever space satellite, inciting some Americans to build backyard bomb shelters. Relations between the two countries were hostile, to say the least.

"Humph! He thinks he's smarter than us!"

*Skirmishes arose between Egypt versus Britain, France and Israel over the Suez Canal.

"This is mine!" "No, it's mine!"

*In Little Rock Arkansas, the governor calls out the National Guard to prevent nine black students from integrating an all-white high school. Later, the president deploys federal troops to assist the students. Earlier, the Brown v. the Board of Education school desegregation case reaches the Supreme Court.

"Did you just lay an egg?"

*The first nuclear power plant begins operations in Pennsylvania.

*Ghana and Singapore are liberated from the British while Papa Doc becomes dictator of Haiti.

"I rule!"

*Hurricane Audrey kills over 500 people in Texas.

*In between international assassinations and political coups, and European colonizers withdrawing from countries they’d previously occupied, it was a tumultuous time that saw the rise of the VietCong. Meanwhile, Americans were buying new suburban homes and starting families 12 years following the end of WWII.

"Why, yes. I AM interested in remodeling. 2017, that is."

The term “hard working” is often used to describe rooster folks. If you ever observe an animal rooster (in Hawai’i they’re often feral), you’ll notice they’re the first ones up each morning, crowing loudly to get everyone else going. And, like animal roosters, human roosters can also be arrogant and boastful; although, for the most part, people find them quite charming. However, they are sometimes too blunt and easily hurt others’ feelings.

"Although I have a nice appearance, I've been told I'm too blunt."

Active, independent, with normally nice appearances, human roosters are sometimes overly fussy about their looks, earning them the reputation of being conceited. They also exhibit great leadership skills but, just like the animal rooster, can give off the appearance of being egocentric. You’ve seen the pompous rooster strutting around the barnyard with his scarlet comb atop his head? Then, you get the picture.

As an element, fire is both dangerous and powerful. Because it can spread rapidly, it has the ability to destroy everything in its path. On the other hand, harnessing it as an energy source to create heat and a method for cooking foods has been lifesaving.

Yin years are female in energy so the new year should bring a renewed focus on women’s issues worldwide. Overall, there will be a more feminine sensibility attached to everything, albeit a fiery one.

There are lots of sites where you can learn what the upcoming year holds in store for each astrological animal, like Rats, Oxen and Tigers, etc. but Chinese astrologers believe that sharing the year with your animal makes the animal jealous. So, if you’re a Fire Rooster by birth, you should exercise caution this year.

you and metaphysicians like you, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still like it.

Once upon a time, Gypsy Stars also sold T-zing t-shirts on Cafe Press, but Cafe Press suddenly decided that all stores need to pay a $25 fee just for staying open. With the very low profit that’s earned with each t-shirt, the fee’s just not worth it.

Therefore, Gypsy Stars will no longer advertise T-zing t-shirts or her Facebook profile page.

You see, Gifted Reader, the Fire Rooster has already made its arrogant presence known.

Swimming In Opposite Directions

Greetings, Gifted Reader!

With the Sun’s entry in the sign Pisces today (10:18 p.m., PST), we are nearing the end of the Astrological year. The Vernal Equinox on March 19, signaling Sun in Aries, will usher in a new 12-month Astrological cycle.

Now is the time to plan for the upcoming Astro year while finishing off projects in this Pisces period. Whether you’re dumping people who’ve been sucking your energy, or doing something less dramatic like leaving a bad habit behind, you’ll find it easier to come up with fresh ideas after March 19 if you rid yourself of stale ones now.

As for Pisces, it’s probably the most misunderstood of the 12 signs. That’s because its symbol is a pair of fish swimming in opposite directions in a circle. The Pisces you think you know may not be that person at all. Just like fish, slippery Pisces tends to be highly elusive.

Interestingly, the late singer Whitney Houston had Pisces Ascendant. And, it’s notable that people’s perceptions of her differed. Even though her Leo Sun and Aries Moon endowed her with a powerful, fiery, ego-driven personality and character, her outermost layer seemed to convey a deer-in-the-headlights innocence. Pisces often exist in a state of confusion, unable to make the simplest of decisions. While Houston was born into a strong Christian family, she also descended into drugs and alcohol even while being a world-renowned star.

Ruled by the mystical planet Neptune, Pisces can be so ethereal that it experiences difficulty at grasping reality—which also makes it a great actor! But then again, Pisces is imbued with an understanding of the deeper, more spiritual side of life. Often gifted with a sweet voice and gentle nature, Pisces is also vulnerable. Because of its mutable water quality, it tends to get snagged in other people’s nets--sometimes intentionally because Pisces finds it easier to go along with someone else’s agenda than deciding for itself.

The 12^th House, which Pisces rules, is often referred to as The House of Self-Undoing or The House of Self-Imprisonment. This House is where we rid ourselves of the goings-on of the previous eleven Houses and come face-to-face with our true souls. It’s not always a pretty picture. The 12^th House also rules religion and prisons.

Spring Has Sprung!

What could feel more like Spring than The Year of the Rabbit? Spring is the season of fertility, and we all know that there’s no animal more fertile than the rabbit. Right? Thus, the Easter Rabbit and those omnipresent, brightly colored eggs. But did you know that the original Easter holiday was a pagan celebration named for Eoster--the Goddess of Fertility?

Maybe it’s not all that spring-y where you are, but here on the West Coast the weather is currently mild. Some cherry blossoms are also beginning to bloom, and in Japan it would be hanami—flower-watching season. However, the recent earthquake and tsunami tragedy may prevent a lot of Japanese from celebrating--whether it’s due to a physical hardship or for emotional reasons.

When I meet with my Astrologers group the first week of April, I’m sure the hot topic of discussion will be Japan’s catastrophe. Interestingly, the planet Uranus left Pisces for Aries on March 11, the day of the horrific event. Uranus rules sudden, often cataclysmic and unexpected events. While the sign Aries is pioneering and always indicates something new on the horizon, it’s hard to see at this moment how something so awful will give way to something fresh and original. But it will.

Tonight, one week past the tragedy, we’re seeing the fullest Moon in 18 years, which compelled a friend to request a Full Moon spell from me. Maybe someone out there knows one, but the only Moon spell I do begins with a New Moon, which guarantees the spell comes to fruition at the Full Moon. The Moon rules the female principle, particularly older women, and the Ifa deity Yemaya or Yemoja. Yemaya has rulership over the seas as well as pregnant women and children. If you want to connect with her, bring watermelons to the ocean and chant, “Fetifum, Mama Yemaya!”

On the 28^th, we’ll be visited by another Mercury Retrograde. If you believe retrogrades are a time of communication disasters, try, instead, to think of it as a chance to reflect. Going backwards gives you the opportunity to re-do something that might not have been done right the first time.
