A Farewell In This New Year

Greetings, Gifted Reader.

Not only is this our last blog post for 2019, but it will likely be our last blog post for good.

Since Gypsy Stars first began her Astrology practice in 1992, so many changes have developed in this big world. And, so they have in Gypsy Stars’ life, as well.

With so many different projects to juggle, she can no longer take time for her Astro work, and will concentrate on various arts endeavors instead.

It’s an opportune time given that 27 years have passed, a somewhat early Saturn Return, since the business of Gypsy Stars began. And, with the Year of the Metal Rat beginning on January 25, 2020, it’s a great time to launch a new project. 

Our profile page on Facebook, pretty much inactive since Facebook destroyed it, will cease along with The Urban Goddess, where we posted all kinds of metaphysical news and info about other readers.

This blog will continue to remain here at this url, but no new posts will be forthcoming.

Our line of T*zing t-shirts will look for a new home, away form Cafe Press, which has also been a disappointing host. However, the shirts will likely be combined with other, non-metaphysical, designs.

Finally, fear not, there are now so many readers writing blogs or doing work on Youtube, you will hardly miss the rantings of Gypsy Stars.

Summer Solstice And A Solar Eclipse

Greetings, Gifted Reader.

Summer Solstice has arrived. On June 22, the Sun entered shy Cancer and brought along her party-hardy, flashy friend called Summer. 

It’s interesting to note that introverted Cancer marks the beginning of this season—featuring loud and lusty good times when people strip off their clothes to bask in the glittering sunshine. Such a dichotomy.

Even though Cancer tends to be a sensitive, family-oriented homebody, it’s still a Cardinal sign and, as such, has ruled several U.S. presidents and many CEO’s. And, Cancer is the Sun Sign of the United States itself.

Check to see where Cancer is in your Natal chart and find out what planets will be transiting there this summer. Our Uranus Midheaven has already felt the effects of a Cancer transit and, as you can imagine, it's been quite shocking.

And, of course, this summer’s biggest news is the Solar Eclipse on August 21. For the first time in 37 years, it will be visible across several U.S. states. Read this article to learn more:

Since the Sun and the New Moon will both be in Leo at the time, check out your Natal chart for any transits and if those transits will be making any aspects to other planets in other Houses.

Meanwhile, Facebook has completely outed Gypsy Stars and refuses to allow the use of her business name—even though it’s been in circulation for over 20 years. Therefore, we will no longer promote our personal FB page. 

You can, however, still “like” our Urban Goddess fan page and feel free to open any metaphysical discussions you’d like there. And, please promote your own healing services, too.

Sprung Over Spring

Greetings, Gifted Reader.

As they say, “spring has sprung” and with it so have the cosmos.

Besides the Sun entering Aries on March 20, Mercury also moved there earlier on March 14. And, Venus before that on February 4. Further, the planet of love and all things material went into retrograde motion a month later on March 4.

With so much fiery Aries energy coming at you, it’s good to remember that this is a combustible time. Aries is a cardinal fire sign that's aggressive, always moves forward and likes to lead, but rarely follows. In other words, Aries is the boss.

Aries’ ruling planet, Mars, was in also in Aries until March 10 before entering that plodder Taurus. A fixed earth sign, Taurus brings a stability to Mars that it needs in order to get things done. Otherwise, Mars in Aries tends to generate a bunch of ideas that are rarely solidified.

Those personal planets—Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars (along with the Moon)—affect individuals more so than groups of people, while outer planets like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto stay in a sign for a longer period and tend to influence generations. However, both Jupiter and Saturn can be considered somewhat personal as they do have shorter orbs. 

Since February 6, transiting Jupiter has been retrograde in Libra opposite Aries. If you have a personal planet in Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter,  you may have felt as if there were a wall hindering you from achieving something. But it all depends on where you have that Sag placement. Areas where you can feel as if you’re stuck might include overseas travel, higher education and overall luck and fortune—a Jupiter domain. No worries, the planet will go direct again on June 10. Note that Saturn has been lingering in Sag, adding further hinderances and causing even more craziness as it goes retrograde on April 6.

So what does all this cosmic activity mean to the average person? Truthfully, not much unless you know your Natal chart. There are lots of websites that offer free charts these days, so input your birth info and take a look to see where the above planets intersect with yours.

For instance, if you have Aries Ascendant at 21 degrees, when Mercury hit it exactly on March 25, it likely triggered a communications emphasis for you. Whether that was a positive or negative experience depends on if Mercury created any aspects with other planets, both transiting and natal, and what Houses those planets were located in. Houses are areas of life in your chart and there are 12 of them.

Okay, that’s a lot of information to absorb if you aren’t already a serious student of Astrology. There’s nothing you can do, but study like mad. Oh, and by the way, that retrograde Venus goes all the way back into Pisces on April 3 before going direct on April 15. In general, romance and personal possessions could be given a second chance. Did you lose one or the other?

As for our own Saturnian issues with delays, Facebook has forced Gypsy Stars into creating a business page which is still pending. Right now, you can like both the Gypsy Stars or The Urban Goddess pages, but there hasn't been much activity with either recently.

What is with the Internet anyway—a Uranus domain--also currently in Aries. Our T-zing t-shirts have been stymied since Cafe Press changed its rules. Grrr.

Days Of Sun, Nights Of Bon

It’s 10 days past Summer Solstice. Have you sensed any changes in the air yet?

Seattle Astrologers mull over transiting planets

With the Sun in Cancer, people tend to be more family-oriented. And because Cancer also rules our memories, this season often finds us being overly sentimental about the past.

An emotive, cardinal water sign, Cancer is a lot more take-charge than most people give them credit for. Look at how many U.S presidents had their Suns placed in Cancer. Even though it’s known for being nurturing and supportive, Cancer’s moonstruck personality shouldn’t fool you. Remember, Cancer rules mothers who are fierce fighters when it comes to protecting her young—whether human or animal.

While Mercury (communications) just moved into shy Cancer, aggressive Mars went direct in Scorpio. This Mars placement sometimes portends violence, although it can also be indicative of intense energy. It can be a good time to focus on your career goals if you have a 10^th House Scorpio. Look where Scorpio appears in your natal chart; then, check out where Mars is transiting it. Chances are this is the area where you’ll be concentrating most of your attention.

We like to think of summertime as an easy-breezy time to spend vacationing or hanging out with loved ones at backyard parties and b-b-q’s, but with Pluto’s continuing presence in Capricorn, we’re in for more political and government upheaval, too.

Try to maintain some lightness in your life. Drink lots of water, eat fresh organic fruits—watermelon, frozen grapes and lychee are especially refreshing now—and practice yoga to relax your mind and keep your body flexible during these turbulent times.

Meanwhile, for Japanese living anywhere, it’s the season for Obon or Bon Odori--bon dance. Summer is when our departed ancestors return to earth to spend time with us. So we celebrate their homecoming by dancing.

Buddhist temples erect a yagura (sacred bandstand) to hold musicians and singers, and dancers perform in a circle around it. In most locations, anyone can join in the dancing. A lot of participants like to wear colorful summer kimono or a hapi coat.

There’s no specific date for Obon as different communities like to hold their own special event. In Hawai’i, where there are 40 Buddhist temples, there are as many celebrations scattered throughout summertime.

Additional components of Obon can include floating lanterns to help the ancestors find their way back to the other side. Names of the departed are sometimes tied to lines strung across temple grounds. At some festivals, booths sell food and omamori (good luck charms). Dances vary from region to region as do the songs, although some have become quite standard like Tanko Bushi, the coal miner’s song.

Venus + Jupiter = Friends With Benefits

Recently, an Astrological phenomenon had a lot of folks talking. Were you watching the event unfolding in the night sky? If you happened to have missed the celestial show, it featured Venus and Jupiter moving closer to each other, night after night, to form an exact conjunction. An exact conjunction occurs when two planets are 0 degrees apart. Otherwise, planets are considered in conjunction aspect to each other whenever they are up to 7 to 9 degrees apart, depending on the Astrologer—who vary widely in their interpretations.

What do you know about Venus? And, what about Jupiter? And, why did it matter that they were cozying up to each other, sort of like "friends with benefits".

In Astrology, Venus is considered the Lesser Benefic. As the ruler of Taurus and Libra, she brings art, beauty, grace and good manners to the table. She can be seductive, but never in a gross or sluttish way. Unless, of course, she’s badly aspected in a chart. But for the most part, Venus brings material benefits because she attracts them.

 Jupiter, called the Greater Benefic, is also a generous benefactor. But where Venus is cool and coquettish, Jupiter blusters. A big and jovial fellow, he often talks too much and sticks his foot in his own mouth. Just check out the sign he rules for a clue: Sagittarius. While being a fire element helps boost Sag’s openness, Jupiter also adds his amicable personality to the sign.

Where Venus is focused on love (love of a partner, love of nice things), Jupiter is more like a philosophical teacher. Yes, he can bring good luck and good fortune to the scene, but that’s because he’s a high-risk taker. And his optimism

helps him take "losing" in great stride.

So what did it mean to you when these two beneficial planets came together, on top of each other so to speak? You’ll have to check out your Natal (and/or Progressed) chart to know. Both signs were in 21 degrees of Leo on June 29. So, for example, if you had 21 degrees of Leo on your Fifth House cusp, the transit of the two planets might have brought you a spurt of flamboyant creativity, or perhaps even a showy baby. It all depends on what other planets are in your Fifth House and if any of them aspect other planets in your chart.

Astrology may not be easy to learn, but knowing even a little helps.

What's In A Name

Have you ever considered how the meaning of your name impacts your life? Like Astrology and Numerology, the names we’re given at birth affects us in interesting ways.

For instance, I have a friend whose name is also that of an important East Asian civilization over 2,000 years old. Further, that civilization was extremely artistic and spiritual. Is it a coincidence that my friend is both, as well?

My friend’s mother’s name translates to lily flower. And just like the lily, she is beautiful, delicate and feminine, yet powerful. Ancient Greeks believed that lilies also had masculine traits, and my friend’s mother does, too. She often ran the household while her husband was gone for long periods of time early in his career.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of babies are given names that they will end up striving to live up to, consciously or not. Some will even change their names to better manifest the fate they feel should be theirs--like those that are hip to Numerology and change the spelling of their names to influence better outcomes. 

For instance, Jane Smith in the chart below adds up to 9, a Mars-ruled individual who might be temperamental and prone to conflict. Adding the “Y” changes her name to 7, ruled by Neptune; a magnetic, musical and mysterious personality.

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad March!

Yesterday, March 20, ushered in several celestial events. Whether they will be for the good or bad remains to be seen.

For starters, we experienced the Vernal Equinox. That’s the official first day of spring when daylight hours and nighttime hours are equal, exactly 12 hours each.

There was also a total Solar Eclipse as the Moon blocked the Sun.

Additionally, a Super Moon occurred when the Moon orbited at its closest to Earth.

Astrologically, there was a New Moon in Aries even as the Sun entered Aries--the Sun at 3:45 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, and the Moon earlier at 3:28 a.m. Aries marks the beginning of any Astrological new year, and is an ideal time to start something new. If you want to begin a relationship or a business for maximum success, this is your best date to do so.

This is also a time of rebirth. If you consider the Gregorian calendar and its new year beginning on January 1, you can see that this period is near the end of the first quarter of 2015. It’s a good time to assess where you are so far, and make those changes you think need to be made. Aries is always about bringing in new ideas and refreshing old ones.

What's A Psychic Fair?

Greetings Gifted Reader,

“What is a psychic fair?” inquiring minds want to know. And rightly so, because it’s a very good question. Most psychic fairs follow a similar format, although Gypsy Stars has herself been involved in different kinds.

Sometimes called “Mind, Body, Spirit Expos” or “Holistic Festivals”, all of them have your spiritual development at its center.

Generally, a venue is selected and several psychic readers are made available for you to get a reading from. 

While smaller fairs usually run for just one day, or even a few hours, larger ones--like expos--can go on for days, usually an entire weekend.

Some fairs charge an admission fee, especially large expos, but most of the time the only money you’ll spend will be on the reader of your choice. Prices are usually set by the fair, although some will allow the reader to do so. In any case, you can look at spending about $30 minimum for 15 minutes, or sometimes 20.

Most readers use Tarot cards although there are many others who use their own unique form of intuition to provide you with assistance. Gypsy Stars has had readings with readers before who have used tea leaves, crystal balls, even pendulums. And, of course, Astrologers who erect Natal charts are always helpful as are those who use Numerology or Palmistry.

At larger fairs, you’ll also find healers who do reiki or auric cleansings (to clean your aura)—which are more hands-on and may require you to lie down or recline.

The most important aspect of a psychic fair you should remember, though, is to be prepared going into them. Try to have some questions or concerns written down on a list. Of course, a general reading can often be very helpful. But if you want a reading because of a particular problem, try to get your question out early so you can get every detail before your time is up.

If you live in the Honolulu metropolitan area, you’re fortunate that you can sample the Blue Moon Psychic Fair once a month. This month’s will be held January 18 at the Mauanakea Marketplace in Chinatown, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Come and find out what the New Year holds for you! On February 19, it will be the Year of the Goat/Ram/Sheep and on March 20, the new Astrological year will begin with the sign Aries.

Astrology's Golden Child

Leos love the stage

In about four days, the Sun will move into the sign Leo. For all you roaring lions, primping lionesses and purring cubs out there, this is the time of year when you thrive. Stretching out in the summer sun, showing off your luminous skin and crazy-wild mane, you just love this season--especially when folks start celebrating your birthday and all attention is focused on you.

Because attention is what Leos crave most--especially on a large scale. Up there on stage, surrounded by a multitude of adoring fans, it just doesn’t getter any better for you posing pussycats. You Leos love large crowds. In fact, you love anything large. And gaudy. That’s not to say all of you love bright, shiny things full of gold. But if you have a strong Sun in Leo placement, you’re likely to be drawn to clothing that sparkles and, not just at the disco. It all has to do with your sense of royalty. You are, after all, King of the Jungle.

Unless you have a badly aspected Leo Sun, you are most at home on stage in the spotlight beaming away. You may think of it as leading others, but it’s really more about having your ego stroked. But that’s okay. In a lot of ways, Leo’s need for adulation is a lot less harmful than, say, Scorpio’s avenging manipulation.

Which brings us to this. What about the rest of us Sun signs? What does this period do to us?

For fire signs, Aries and Sagittarius, there’s a more harmonious feel during Leo months. For earth, water and air signs like Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius, it might feel strained since you're all signs that square Leo. But everything depends on where Leo will transit in your Natal chart. What House will be affected? What planets will the Sun make hard aspects to? Those are the triggers to watch for.

For instance, in Gypsy Stars’ chart, the Sun in Leo will transit her 10^th House of Career. Hey, now that sounds promising. If I’m already working, then I should be applauded and recognized. Maybe, I’ll even get a bonus. On the other hand, if I’m looking for a job, the one I acquire during this time could be a keeper
