Rae Dawn Chong, Celebrity Celebrant

Greetings, Gifted Reader.

lovely and loving, Rae Dawn Chong
If you’ve ever seen the blockbuster films Quest for Fire, Commando or The Color Purple, then you must remember the riveting performances of Rae Dawn Chong. She’s also appeared in numerous television shows including Melrose Place, Highlander and Judging Amy.

Aside from her stellar acting abilities, Rae Dawn is also an active spiritualist. That is, she believes so strongly in the celestial life, that she’s dedicated herself to launching a new television show about it. Recently, she raised enough money to shoot her pilot called The Celebrant.

As defined by Rae Dawn on her IndieGoGo page: a celebrant is a person who serves the community by bringing ceremony and mindfulness and spirituality to everything in life. As a community, we help people heal through compassionate witnessing, and all of this is done in a way that encompasses all that is authentic and spiritual, and yet not attached to any one religious order. In fact, respecting all religion as sacred.”

Below, Rae Dawn shares with us her early life and expectations for the series:

Q: At what age did you develop an interest in metaphysics, and how?

A: 12 years old. The book was Ram Dass’ Be Here Now. I was in boarding school in Ojai, and it was a critical time for me.

Q: Can you briefly explain The Celebrant?

A:  In the pilot/series, I’m a Celebrant in New Hampshire who is on a self-imposed witness protection plan. I’m escaping a bad divorce, living quietly alone and struggling everyday to find meaning, GOD. Hence, my work helping people create ritual and spirituality, as a Celebrant. Ironically, I think people who do spiritual work are the ones most needing it. And my character in the pilot is definitely imperfect. I hope her search for meaning reflects a common search that we all have, or some of us have.  Personally, my entire life has been one journey looking for Divinity.

Q: What one message do you have for the world?

A: It is love. This is the very thing we all are looking for. Connection, meaning community, joy. To be witnessed, celebrated to celebrate, and grow. I reckon that is the thing that drives everything, including everything that is counter to love.

Thank you, Rae Dawn Chong for your words of enlightenment, encouragement and love.
